Insomnia, Migraine, And Makeup 💋

It's been almost two weeks since my appointment with Dr. Rosenberg. Everything seems to be looking up with the exception of my sleeping schedule. It is too soon to see whether or not the daily preventive candansarten (Atacand) is working.  That usually takes at least three months.  However, the occipital nerve block has really surprised me in how well it has been able to lower my pain level since receiving it.

Until yesterday, I only needed to take my first level abortive (Zomig+Aleve+Reglan) to relieve my migraine and my daily pain levels wouldn't go higher than a six, which is a huge change! This weekend our weather in Northern Virginia was quite miserable with rain all day Saturday and high winds Sunday.  Both days I had increased head pain and extreme nausea that Reglan, Zofran, crackers, ginger ale nor ginger tea could alleviate.

Monday I woke up feeling less nauseous but a severe migraine hit me out of nowhere by the early afternoon.  Yesterday was the first time I had to bypass the zomig and go straight to the Migranal (dihydroergotamine mesylate).  Honestly, I was scared to death of the possible nausea that DHE so notoriously causes.  Even though I take combination of Reglan and Zofran twenty minutes before the DHE, I was still apprehensive about it.

Well, the nausea was the least of my troubles because for some reason the DHE brought my pain level through the roof.  It was already at a ten and after the doses were taken, it felt like my head was going to officially explode.  Despite wearing my Migraine Hat the pain was unconsolable.  I was extremely disappointed and it left a sour impression of it's possibility to relieve my pain.

This morning I took the first dose of dexamethasone (Decadron), a steroid, which I can take for three days no more than twice a month.  I do not want to take any chances of that beast of an attack coming back so hopefully this will help deter it.

Last Friday I decided to make a video in the middle of putting on my makeup.  I was particularly tired as my insomnia was a huge duduk kasus last week.  Despite the switch to Lunesta, I was having trouble either falling asleep or staying asleep.  I would turn off all electronics (television and cell phone) and even tried guided imagery for sleep with no luck. I would either lay there for hours or fall asleep for two or three hours only to wake up in the middle of the night.

Tomorrow I have to send an update to Dr. Rosenberg about the occipital block so I will include my struggles with the sleep aid.  Hopefully there is an alternative for me to switch to. During my video I discuss most of these things, with the exception of using the DHE.  As well as why I still put makeup on even though I may be in pain and what it represents for me.

Enjoy! 😘
