Scholarship Description
Wellcome, through the Wellcome Trust (WT), offers its Masters Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine for ingusan researchers from low- or middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank).

This scheme strengthens scientific research capacity in low- and middle-income countries, by providing support for ingusan researchers to gain research experience and high-quality research pelatihan at Masters Degree level. A Master's Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine is normally for 30 months and can be held on a part-time basis.

Research projects should be aimed at understanding and controlling diseases (either human or animal) of relevance to local, national or global health. This can include laboratory based molecular analysis of field or clinical samples, but projects focused solely on studies in vitro or using animal models will not normally be considered under this scheme.

Eligibility
You can apply for a Master's Fellowship in Public Health and Tropical Medicine if you:
  • are a national of a low- or middle-income country
  • hold a clinical or non-clinical undergraduate degree in a subject relevant to public health or tropical medicine.
You must also:
  • be at an early stage in your career with limited research experience (but you must have a demonstrated interest in, or aptitude for, research)
  • have sponsorship from an eligible host organisation in a low- or middle-income country
  • have a research anjuran that is within our public health and tropical medicine remit.
THOSE WHO CANNOT APPLY
You can’t apply if you’re:

Research can include laboratory-based molecular analysis of field or clinical samples, but Wellcome doesn't normally consider projects focused solely on studies in vitro or using animal models.

The Wellcome Trust is particularly interested in requests for research pelatihan support in the social sciences, demography, health economics, medical statistics and vector biology.

Scholarship benefits
SUPPORT DURING MASTERS COURSE
The support includes a stipend, travel costs (eg outward and return airfares), approved tuition fees according to the rate charged by the pelatihan organisation. Wellcome usually provides funds at the level charged to the UK/EU students, rather than the overseas student rate.

Wellcome supports distance learning Master's degrees.

If your stipend is liable for tax in the country you're based in, Wellcome'll provide costs to cover the taxed amount.

SUPPORT DURING FELLOWSHIP
The support includes a basic salary (determined by your host institution), personal removal expenses and research expenses directly related to your proposal.
