Scholarship Description
Until now Rhodes Scholarships has been open only to candidates from Rhodes constituencies (approximately 60 countries) around the world in the Rhodes Constituency Scholarships. This year (2018) the opportunity has been extended to the rest of the world, in the new Rhodes Global Scholarships, subject to eligibility and University nomination.
The Rhodes Trust of Oxford University is offering over 100 Constituency Scholarships and 2 new Global Scholarships to allow eligible candidates from the rest of the world (who are NOT Rhodes constituencies or jurisdictions) to be nominated by their University.
The Rhodes Scholarships are administered by the Rhodes Trust, Oxford, United Kingdom. Rhodes Global Scholarship is looking for outstanding young leaders who are motivated to engage with global challenges and to promote international understanding and peace.
Eligibility
The following eligibility criteria apply to all applicants for the Rhodes Global Scholarships:
The Selection Committee for the Rhodes Global Scholarship seeks young people of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service, and who demonstrate a strong propensity to emerge as 'leaders for the world’s future'.
Eligible groups
Citizens of countries that are not Rhodes constituencies (see existing Rhodes constituencies)
Participating Institutions
Oxford University in UK
Fields of study
Any full-time postgraduate degree (including the BA with senior status over two years) at the University of Oxford
Number of awards
Two awards will be offered
Sponsorship duration
The tenure of the Scholarship is two years, subject always to satisfactory academic performance and personal conduct. Subject to an application process, the Scholarship may be extended for a third year for those who take a recognised route to the DPhil (PhD).
Scholarship benefits
A Rhodes Global Scholarship covers all University of Oxford fees, as well as the University application fee, and a personal stipend. In addition, one economy class airfare to Oxford at the start of the scholarship and one economy flight back to the student’s home country at the conclusion of the scholarship are covered.
Method of Application
Please note that applicants cannot apply directly for a Global Scholarship. You must be nominated by your University. A nomination from their university is required and, if successful, the candidate will be sent an invitation to apply.

- Citizenship & residency: Candidates who are eligible to apply from any of the existing Rhodes constituencies are not eligible for the Global Scholarship. See Rhodes Constituency Scholarships
- Age: You must have reached your 18th birthday and not have passed your 24th birthday on 1 October in the year of application. Successful candidates will arrive in Oxford in late September of the year following the selection process. The Scholarship may not be deferred.
- Education: Rhodes Scholars must have completed a Bachelor’s degree before coming up to Oxford, to a sufficiently high standard to meet both the Rhodes and the University of Oxford criteria. As a guideline, successful candidates should have achieved (or be on track to achieve) a 1st class or minimum 3.75/4.00 GPA or equivalent.
